DXF is about geometry, not appearance
DXF is a CAD exchange format. It stores lines, arcs and curves that machines and drawing software can follow. It is not designed to carry rich artwork, so think of a DXF as the outlines of your design rather than the painted picture. Vetorly rebuilds your PNG or JPG as shapes with smooth Bézier curves and few nodes, which gives CNC and laser programs clean paths instead of thousands of tiny segments.
Where DXF is used
- CNC routers and plasma or waterjet cutting, where toolpaths are made from outlines.
- Laser software such as LightBurn, which can import DXF as well as SVG.
- CAD programs such as AutoCAD for further drawing or dimensioning.
Prepare the image for cutting
- Use a high-contrast design. Solid black shapes on white give clear boundaries.
- Make sure bridges and thin connections are thick enough for your tool or material. A router bit or a plasma kerf has a real width.
- Plan for islands. In letters like O and A, the inner shape needs a bridge or stencil approach if it must stay in place.
- Remove decoration you do not intend to cut.
Units and scale: the usual surprise
DXF files do not always tell the receiving program which units they use. After import, measure the design and compare it to the size you want. Rescale if needed, then check again before running a job. Draw a known-size rectangle as a reference if it helps.
Checks after import
- Zoom into curves and make sure they are smooth rather than faceted.
- Look for duplicate or overlapping paths that would cut twice.
- Find open paths where your software expects closed shapes, which matters for pocketing and fill operations.
- Delete stray tiny shapes.
- Use separate layers or color groups to assign cut depths, if your software supports it.
Choosing the right tolerance
Before you cut, decide how closely the machine must follow the outline. A decorative wooden plaque forgives small deviations, while a part that must fit another part does not. If accuracy matters, cut a small test piece first and measure it against the design.

Quality
Vectors that look hand-made.
No jagged outlines, no thousands of nodes. The AI understands the drawing and rebuilds every shape properly.
Real shapes
Circles become circles, rectangles stay rectangles. Straight lines stay straight, corners stay sharp.
Few nodes, smooth curves
Bézier curves with the fewest points possible. Light files that are easy to edit.
No gaps between colors
Neighbouring shapes fit perfectly — no white hairlines when you print.
Fine detail
Sub-pixel precision that keeps small text, sharp tips and transparency.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does DXF keep my colors?
DXF is mainly for geometry such as outlines. Do not expect it to carry artwork appearance the way SVG or PDF can.
Why is my DXF the wrong size after import?
DXF does not always specify units. Measure the imported design and rescale it to the size you need before cutting.
Can I open the DXF in LightBurn or AutoCAD?
DXF is a common exchange format supported by CAD and laser software. Check the import settings in your program.
Do I get SVG as well?
Yes. One credit gives you DXF, SVG, PDF, EPS and PNG for the same image.
Is the preview really free?
Yes. Upload and see the result for free. You only pay to download the clean file.
Which formats do I get?
SVG, PDF, EPS, DXF and high-res PNG. One credit unlocks every format of that image.
Does it work in Illustrator and CorelDRAW?
Yes. Open the SVG, EPS or PDF. Inkscape and Affinity work too.
Cricut, Silhouette and cutting plotters?
Yes. Use the SVG (or DXF in Silhouette Studio). Shapes come separated by color.
Laser and CNC?
Yes. Download DXF or SVG for LightBurn, Glowforge, RDWorks and CNC software.
Which images work best?
Logos, icons, illustrations, drawings and art with clear shapes. Photos work too, with a more artistic look.
