Why use an SVG in Canva
A PNG logo looks soft when you stretch it across a poster or a presentation slide. An SVG stays sharp at any size, so one file can serve a business card, a social post and a banner. It also allows color changes in many editors because the artwork is made of separate shapes. Vetorly rebuilds your PNG as shapes with smooth Bézier curves and few nodes, with each color as its own editable shape.
Best candidates for Canva
Logos, icons, signatures, badges, simple illustrations and decorative elements work well. Photographs do not, because a vector uses flat color fills and turns photos into stylized shapes.
Prepare the PNG
- Use a transparent or plain background so you do not get an unwanted box behind the artwork.
- Choose the highest resolution you have.
- Reduce shadows and glows if you want a clean flat graphic.
- Keep colors distinct so each one becomes its own clean shape.
Using the SVG in Canva
- Download the SVG after purchase and upload it to your Canva media library like any other image.
- Drop it on your design and resize it. It should stay sharp as you scale it.
- If you want to change colors, check what your Canva plan and the file allow. Simple SVGs with few flat colors are the most likely to be recolorable.
- If a background shape appears, remove it in a vector editor before uploading, or use Canva's own background removal if available to you.
When to keep a PNG as well
Some platforms and exports still prefer raster files. Your credit includes a high-res PNG, which is useful as a backup or for tools that do not accept SVG. For print, a PDF or EPS from the same credit may be better. The guide to converting PNG to SVG covers more detail on the process, and PNG to SVG is the general-purpose page.
Common issues
If the converted file has too many tiny shapes, the source was probably noisy or compressed. Clean the PNG, or try a larger version. If an element is missing, check that its color is distinct enough from the background. Finally, confirm the file is not intended to carry live text, because words become outline shapes.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will Canva accept the SVG file?
Canva lets you upload SVG graphics, but feature availability, such as recoloring, can depend on the file and your plan. Check how it behaves in your account.
Can I change colors after converting?
Each color is a separate shape, so recoloring is straightforward in vector editors. In Canva it depends on your plan and file complexity.
Why does my PNG look blurry when enlarged?
PNG is made of pixels, so enlarging it spreads them out. An SVG is built from shapes and stays sharp at any size.
Do I get a PNG too?
Yes. One credit includes SVG, PDF, EPS, DXF and a high-res PNG.
Is the preview really free?
Yes. Upload and see the result for free. You only pay to download the clean file.
Which formats do I get?
SVG, PDF, EPS, DXF and high-res PNG. One credit unlocks every format of that image.
Does it work in Illustrator and CorelDRAW?
Yes. Open the SVG, EPS or PDF. Inkscape and Affinity work too.
Cricut, Silhouette and cutting plotters?
Yes. Use the SVG (or DXF in Silhouette Studio). Shapes come separated by color.
Laser and CNC?
Yes. Download DXF or SVG for LightBurn, Glowforge, RDWorks and CNC software.
Which images work best?
Logos, icons, illustrations, drawings and art with clear shapes. Photos work too, with a more artistic look.
