Turning a compressed JPG into a proper vector

When a printer asks for EPS and the only file you have is a JPG, you are in a common spot. JPG throws away detail to save space, so edges carry blotches and halos. Simply embedding that JPG inside an EPS wrapper does not make it a vector. It would still be pixels. Vetorly instead rebuilds real geometric shapes with smooth Bézier curves and few nodes, and each color becomes an editable shape, so the EPS is genuinely scalable.

Ways to improve the JPG first

  • Find the best copy. The original export beats a screenshot or a version that was re-saved several times.
  • Crop to the artwork. Margins and unrelated elements can become extra shapes.
  • Avoid heavy filters. Aggressive sharpening or denoising can alter edges unpredictably.
  • Use flat artwork. Logos, badges and lettering convert better than photos.

Backgrounds

JPG has no transparency, so a white or colored background is part of the picture. In the EPS it may appear as a shape. Select it in your vector editor and delete it if the artwork should sit alone. Because each color is separate, this is quick.

Checks after download

  1. Open the file in design software and zoom in to inspect curves.
  2. Look for speckles in flat areas, which usually trace back to JPG noise.
  3. Check that thin features and small gaps survived.
  4. Set final dimensions, and ask your printer whether they need CMYK or specific spot colors.

Where JPG sources struggle

Small thumbnails, screenshots of websites and heavily compressed images contain too little real information. The AI can produce a tidy result from a modest JPG, but it cannot invent text or details that are not visible. If you have the chance, ask the client for a PNG or the original design file. When a PNG exists, PNG to EPS may give a cleaner result.

Keep other formats handy

Your credit includes EPS, SVG, PDF, DXF and PNG. Use SVG for web and EPS or PDF for print. For general background on the format, see convert to EPS, and for a step-by-step on brand marks, read how to vectorize a logo.

Quality

Vectors that look hand-made.

No jagged outlines, no thousands of nodes. The AI understands the drawing and rebuilds every shape properly.

Real shapes

Circles become circles, rectangles stay rectangles. Straight lines stay straight, corners stay sharp.

Few nodes, smooth curves

Bézier curves with the fewest points possible. Light files that are easy to edit.

No gaps between colors

Neighbouring shapes fit perfectly — no white hairlines when you print.

Fine detail

Sub-pixel precision that keeps small text, sharp tips and transparency.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is wrapping a JPG inside an EPS the same as vectorizing it?

No. A wrapped JPG is still made of pixels. Vectorizing rebuilds the image as shapes and curves that scale without loss.

How do I remove the white background?

The background may come as a separate shape. Select it in a vector editor and delete it.

Can a very small JPG be converted?

It can be converted, but the result is limited by what is visible. A larger, cleaner source gives better outlines.

What if the EPS is not good enough?

Contact us within 7 days of purchase for a credit or refund if the result is not usable.

Is the preview really free?

Yes. Upload and see the result for free. You only pay to download the clean file.

Which formats do I get?

SVG, PDF, EPS, DXF and high-res PNG. One credit unlocks every format of that image.

Does it work in Illustrator and CorelDRAW?

Yes. Open the SVG, EPS or PDF. Inkscape and Affinity work too.

Cricut, Silhouette and cutting plotters?

Yes. Use the SVG (or DXF in Silhouette Studio). Shapes come separated by color.

Laser and CNC?

Yes. Download DXF or SVG for LightBurn, Glowforge, RDWorks and CNC software.

Which images work best?

Logos, icons, illustrations, drawings and art with clear shapes. Photos work too, with a more artistic look.
