Why screen printers want vector art
Screen printing applies one ink color per screen. To make screens, the printer needs the artwork split into color layers with crisp edges. A low-resolution PNG makes that difficult, since fuzzy edges produce rough screens and uneven prints. A vector gives hard edges at any size. Vetorly rebuilds your image as real shapes with smooth Bézier curves and few nodes, and each color is a separate editable shape, which is a convenient start for separations.
Spot color designs versus full-color images
Designs made of a few flat colors, such as logos, band shirts and team graphics, are ideal. Artwork with soft shadows, glows or photo content needs a different approach, such as halftones or simulated process separations. A vector trace turns gradients into banded flat areas, which can look intentional but changes the design.
Prepare the image
- Reduce to the number of colors you can afford to print.
- Remove glows and soft shadows that you do not want turned into bands.
- Use the largest file you have, and avoid JPG compression when you can.
- Keep fine lines thick enough to hold on the screen mesh.
Checks for separations
- Select each color and confirm it is one clean object, then note the count of colors.
- Look for overlaps. Printers often want a slight overlap or trap so colors do not leave gaps if registration shifts. Ask what your shop prefers.
- Check small details and gaps against what your mesh can hold.
- Assign spot colors in your design software if the printer matches ink to a swatch book.
- Remove the background shape so it does not print as a solid block.
What about DTF?
DTF and similar transfer methods print the design digitally, so gradients and many colors are less of a problem. A vector still helps because edges stay sharp at the size you print, and you can resize without quality loss. If your DTF workflow needs a raster file, the high-res PNG included with each credit can serve as the clean output.
Common mistakes
Enlarging a small file before printing, leaving off bleed or margin, and sending artwork with unwanted background boxes are the usual culprits. To prepare a brand mark for any printing job, see logo to vector. For a similar color-by-color approach in stitches, visit vectorize for embroidery.

Quality
Vectors that look hand-made.
No jagged outlines, no thousands of nodes. The AI understands the drawing and rebuilds every shape properly.
Real shapes
Circles become circles, rectangles stay rectangles. Straight lines stay straight, corners stay sharp.
Few nodes, smooth curves
Bézier curves with the fewest points possible. Light files that are easy to edit.
No gaps between colors
Neighbouring shapes fit perfectly — no white hairlines when you print.
Fine detail
Sub-pixel precision that keeps small text, sharp tips and transparency.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does the vector come already separated into colors?
Each color becomes its own editable shape, which gives you a good basis for separations. Your printer may still adjust overlaps, trapping and ink assignments.
Can I vectorize a design with gradients for screen printing?
Gradients become flat banded areas in a vector. For smooth gradients, screen printers typically use halftones or other separation methods.
Is this useful for DTF?
Yes. Sharp vector edges scale cleanly, and the included high-res PNG can be used where the workflow needs a raster file.
Which file should I send to my printer?
Ask what they prefer. Most accept EPS, PDF or SVG, and one credit gives you all of them.
Is the preview really free?
Yes. Upload and see the result for free. You only pay to download the clean file.
Which formats do I get?
SVG, PDF, EPS, DXF and high-res PNG. One credit unlocks every format of that image.
Does it work in Illustrator and CorelDRAW?
Yes. Open the SVG, EPS or PDF. Inkscape and Affinity work too.
Cricut, Silhouette and cutting plotters?
Yes. Use the SVG (or DXF in Silhouette Studio). Shapes come separated by color.
Laser and CNC?
Yes. Download DXF or SVG for LightBurn, Glowforge, RDWorks and CNC software.
Which images work best?
Logos, icons, illustrations, drawings and art with clear shapes. Photos work too, with a more artistic look.
